Briar

As soon as I was in the door, my phone rang. It was, Geneva.

“It’s about time you got your ass home,” she said.

“And hello to you too,” I told her. “How did you know I was home?”

“Security cameras.”

There was no point in getting mad at her, I knew she was doing it for my safety.

“Yes, I’m home. Are you coming over?”

“You know I need to hear all about your overnight date, so you bet your ass I’m coming over.”

I laughed. “Okay, see you later,” I said, and hung up.

Despite the wonderful weekend, I still had mundane things to do like laundry and cleaning, so I put a load in the washer and started vacuuming. I know some people who hated cleaning, but to me, the end result was always worth it.

I was just taking my stuff out of the dryer when Geneva walked in. “You’re just in time to help me fold. Here,” I said, and handed her the basket.

We went to my room and started putting my clothes away. Geneva usually bitched about helping me, but since she was being good, I knew she really wanted to know how my weekend had gone. She was good until we were finished.

“I’ve waited long enough,” she said. “I need to know now.”

I grinned at her. “He made me dinner, we started to watch a movie, ended up having sex instead, then I went to help him, and Jan get her apartment ready.”

I purposefully left almost everything out just to get her going. It was fun watching her lose her cool. Sure, she was a vampire, but I knew she’d never hurt me.

“I know you’re doing that on purpose just to piss me off, but I’m not going to let you get to me. I can wait all night for you to tell me,” she said, and turned on the TV.

I was the queen of secrets and I knew her curiosity would get the better of her, but I let her think she was going to win.

Geneva started flipping through channels, until she settled on some show on the History Channel. I wasn’t a huge fan of history, but watching it with someone who’d lived through it was different and usually entertaining. She loved to point out when they got something wrong. I was giving her an hour before she finally caved and begged me for details about my date.

“Okay, I give up,” she said, about forty-five minutes later. “Briar, will you please tell me everything about your date with Kallen?”

I grinned at her, but let her off the hook. “Okay, you’ve been very patient, for you anyway, so I’ll talk.”

She smiled big enough that I could see the tips of her fangs. She only did that when she was really happy. I told her everything about dinner and then Jan’s prank with the porn. I thought she was going to fall out of her chair when she heard that. That just confirmed how much she and Jan were alike. I didn’t
